Where Did AntiPatterns Come From?

Design pattern languages have taken the programming community by storm, and reflect an intense desire from software professionals to improve the quality and standards of the industry. It’s not possible to dispute the intrinsic value of design patterns, given the growing number of projects, which attribute the use and creation of reusable design patterns for their success. However, the current paradigm falls short of fully expressing the intended range and scope of the intended use of design patterns, giving rise to a new literary form that flies directly in the face of existing definitions of patterns. This new literary form is the AntiPattern. In order to fully grasp its significance in software development, it’s important to understand its origins and how the current design pattern phenomenom has given rise to the AntiPattern.
